LFC enters a new era with the soft opening of their brick & mortar location. By: Jan Boroff Miller 2023 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Lite Foot Company! On January 28, LFC officially opened their new storefront in the beautiful Starland District, and we are excited for what this move means for the business’ bright future. For owner, Katie Rodgers-Hubbard, the move couldn’t have come sooner or at better time. “A lot of my products are things [customers] use every day, and we have not had a popup since before Christmas,” said Katie, just a week before opening the doors to her shop. “So, people are out of their hand soap, dish soap. I just want to have doors open, even though it’s not perfect, for people to come in and start getting their stuff.” Even with final inspections and receiving their certificate of occupancy coming down to the wire, Lite Foot’s soft opening on January 28 went off without a hitch! The new brick-and-mortar location is an important step in making sustainability accessible for Savannah residents, Katie said. “Right now, sustainability has to be easy for people to do it,” said Katie. And the store certainly makes shopping for eco-friendly household goods simple! For the month of February, the shop will be open 6-days-a-week to ensure Savannah locals and visitors can get quality, green products at their convenience. The new storefront came together through donations to the Small Steps Make a Big Difference Campaign, which LFC launched in late 2022. The monetary contributions to the campaign as well as the elbow grease of Lite Foot employees and friends made the store’s soft opening a huge success. Katie wants to thank everyone who helped make the store a reality. She said volunteers assisted with setting up security systems, moving inventory, putting together furniture for the store, filling 40-gallon jugs of product, and so much more. Lite Foot Company could not have done it without you. And it’s not too late to jump in and be a part of Lite Foot’s new endeavor! Contributions to the Small Steps Make a Big Difference Campaign can still be made at litefootcompany.com. Donations will go to sponsoring the naming rights for several sustainable products, refillery stations or by purchasing sections of a one-of-a-kind mural, designed by local artist Julia McGahee. More new adventures: Lite Foot Environmental FoundationThe brick-and-mortar shop isn’t the only new feature in 2023 for Lite Foot Company. The business is also launching a nonprofit called the Lite Foot Environmental Foundation (LFEF) to help facilitate community-wide programs and initiatives. Katie said the foundation will allow Lite Foot Company to have a larger reach within the community and allow the organization to achieve some of its big-picture goals. “I realize a lot of the things that I talk about that I want to accomplish, like influencing laws, helping other [small] businesses, education, workshops…they are not supported by retail,” said Katie. The Lite Foot Environmental Foundation was created to allow the company to pursue grant-funding to help offset the cost of clothing, toy and coat swaps, develop environmental education curriculum for all ages, host workshops, establish a city-wide take-back program, and more! The Foundation plans to be a big part of green initiatives throughout the city, and it already has a lot of buy-in from other small companies looking to reduce their carbon footprints. “There are a lot of businesses right now who would be totally on board working with us to do a take back program,” said Katie. “Meaning, if you buy a night cream from a local cosmetic company, after you use that night cream, you can bring that glass container back to Lite Foot, and we would sanitize it to the required code, and get it back to that original maker so they can reuse it again.” As LFEF gets established, we excited to develop eco-friendly programming for all! We'll keep on trucking with Hillary the RefilleryLite Foot Company’s new endeavors will enhance the work of Georgia’s first refillery: Hillary the Refillery. While Hillary’s offerings will be a bit more limited due to inventory demands at the shop, Katie said she’s more than willing to accommodate Lite Foot’s loyal customers. Simply message Lite Foot Company on Instagram, Facebook or by email with requested products 24-hours in advance of the market you plan to attend, and Lite Foot’s staff will make sure to stock the truck with items to meet your wish list. You can catch LFC’s flagship mobile store at popups and markets throughout the Lowcountry. Check out our website for new dates and times you can visit Hillary the Refillery in the Hostess City of the South as well as Hilton Head, Bluffton, and the surrounding areas.
